What are the consequences of having unresolved LBDs?
Applies to
- WorldShare Record Manager
Answer
Unresolved or "dark" LBDs are often the result of data sync loads that contain validation errors in the bibliographic records they are linked to or validation errors in the LBD itself.
When the LBD is unresolved:
- The LBDs can only be searched one at a time in Record Manager, either by OCLC Number, LBD Control Number, or Local System Number. This prevents them from being added in bulk to a Record Work List, for example.
- The LBD data may appear on the record details page in WorldCat Discovery, but the data is not indexed and may not be searched. A note in the 596 field of the LBD, for example, would show in "Local Notes" in the item details in Discovery, but an nt: search for that note will not return the record.
- The LBD may not be moved to another bibliographic record.
To fix unresolved or dark LBDs, open the record in Record Manager and validate the record to ensure there are no validation errors. If there are errors, correct them. If there are no errors, simply re-saving the LBD should resolve the issue. For more information, see Process records in WorldCat Staging.
