Derive WorldCat bibliographic records (Fundamentals)

Discover how to derive a bibliographic record before or after opening an existing record using the Text view editor in WorldShare Record Manager Fundamentals.

When you derive a Text View WorldCat bibliographic record, you are creating a new WorldCat bibliographic record from an existing WorldCat record that describes an item that resembles or is related to the item your are cataloging. By deriving the WorldCat record, you are using some of the information from a similar existing WorldCat record rather than entering information into a blank form. Because you reuse applicable content, this procedure enables you to be more efficient and reduce errors.

 Note: Before deriving a record, verify that no one has previously added a record for the item you want to add. This practice prevents duplicate records from being created.

Derive a Text View WorldCat bibliographic record before opening an existing record

  1. Cerca un record esistente.
  2. From the search results list, locate the record to be derived.
  3. Fare clic su Deriva record.
  4. Update the bibliographic record with your institution's information.
  5. From the Save drop-down menu, select Add Record and Set WorldCat Holding. The record is added to WorldCat and your library's OCLC institution symbol is added to the record to set a WorldCat holding.
  6. Se non è stato possibile derivare un record, verrà visualizzato un messaggio di errore. Correggere eventuali errori e ripetere il passaggio 5.

Deriva un record bibliografico WorldCat con visualizzazione testuale dopo aver aperto un record esistente

  1. From the Text View editor, click Record.
  2. From the Record drop-down menu, select Derive WorldCat Record. The derived record opens with a new WorldCat bibliographic record with the information from the derived WorldCat record prepopulated in the fields.
  3. Update the bibliographic record with your institution's information.
  4. Dal menu a discesa Salva, selezionare una delle seguenti opzioni:
    • Aggiungi record a WorldCat - Aggiunge il record a WorldCat
    • Aggiungi record e imposta posseduto WorldCat - Aggiunge il record a WorldCat e imposta un posseduto WorldCat aggiungendo il simbolo dell'istituzione OCLC della propria biblioteca al record
    Verrà visualizzato un messaggio di conferma con il numero di controllo OCLC una volta che il record è stato aggiunto a WorldCat.
  5. If a record was unable to be derived, an error message will appear. Correct any errors and repeat step 6.
  6. (Optional) Save the derived record as in-progress to finish editing later.
