What should I do when I'm receiving OCR license activation error(s)?

If you're getting the following error message after deactivating the license on an old device and trying to activate it on the new device:
Activation failed
Your serial number cannot be activated automatically.
The license was likely not deactivated properly on the old device. If you attempted to deactivate the OCR license using the Clear Software OCR License button from the Project Settings Manager > OCR menu, this is likely the reason. That button is a remnant from earlier versions of the Project Client and does not function correctly in ver. 7.x. Instead, reactivate the license on the original device, and use the following workflow to deactivate:
- Open the Project Client and open any project.
- Navigate to Project Settings Manager > OCR.
- Click the Review License button to view the OCR license information.
- Right-click on the license serial number and select Deactivate... from the pop-up menu.
The deactivated OCR license can then be moved to another workstation.
Other considerations:
- OCR Activation codes only need to be set up once per install of Project Client on a machine. You don't need to fill in the OCR license on each Project. Trying to do so can cause activation errors.
- If none of the above information resolves this issue, your license is most likely locked and needs to be reset. Please contact CONTENTdm OCLC Support with your library name, the activation code that is giving the error, and the error message you are getting.
