About FirstSearch COUNTER 5 reports

OCLC Usage Statistics offers FirstSearch COUNTER 5 reports compliant with the COUNTER Code of Practice and verified by an independent audit.

Project COUNTER is a standardizing body that issues a Code of Practice for use by publishers and content providers to count usage so that libraries can evaluate use in consistent ways across electronic resource platforms. OCLC Usage Statistics offers COUNTER Release 5 (R5) compliant reports, verified via a COUNTER audit.

COUNTER 5 reports are available for usage beginning 1 September 2023 and will provide:

  • Full-month COUNTER 5 data from 1 September 2023 to present. FirstSearch COUNTER 5 reports are added each month, retrospectively, so September data is available from the first week in October, etc.
  • COUNTER 5 data retention for three years from the harvest date. Data older than three years from the harvest date will be deleted.

Legacy FirstSearch reports

Legacy FirstSearch usage statistics reports allow your library to compare database usage across vendor platforms in a consistent, credible, and compatible manner. These reports offer basic usage information, and can be used in conjunction with OCLC's usage statistics reports found under the FirstSearch tab.  Legacy FirstSearch reports, while not COUNTER compliant, measure journal use within databases, including download methods, database use at the session and search level, turnaways, and service use.  These reports can easily be imported via Microsoft® Excel or the .CSV format, and merged into a single report with statistics from multiple service providers.

OCLC Consortia Level reports provide a consortia the rollups of the institution-level numbers to give totals for the consortia. These are intended for informational use to the Consortia and are not considered to be COUNTER-compliant reports.

Legacy FirstSearch usage statistics reports are available for usage that occurred before 1 November 2023.
