OCLC Meridian release notes, April 2026

Introduzione

This release of OCLC Meridian provides one new feature and two enhancements, including: 

  • View, add, and edit IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework) manifest URLs and thumbnails
  • Updated date format for entry and display using ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD format
  • Accessibility improvements, including better screen reader navigation, easier reading at high zoom levels, and clearer indicators for required fields

These enhancements are the direct result of your feedback.

For this release, we recommend that you take the following actions: 

  • Review these release notes and share them with your internal library staff to familiarize them with the new Images section and IIIF Manifest functionality. 
  • Navigate to the new Images section on WorldCat Entities pages and click Add to begin adding IIIF Manifests to entity descriptions. 
  • Review and update internal procedures to reflect the new YYYY-MM-DD date format when entering data in the Significant Dates section.

IIIF Manifest Support (Meridian and WorldCat Entities) 

Meridian users can now add a IIIF Manifest (wco:iiifManifest) to WorldCat Entity descriptions, enabling thumbnail image display within the UI and availability via the API. 

  • New Images section: A new "Images" section is now available on WorldCat Entity pages in both Meridian and WorldCat Entities.

  • Thumbnail display: Images associated with the IIIF Manifest are displayed as thumbnails within the entity viewer.

  • UI and API availability: IIIF Manifest data is available in both the Meridian and WorldCat Entities UI and APIs. 

Date Format Update (Meridian and WorldCat Entities) 

The date format for entry and display has been updated to YYYY-MM-DD to ensure consistent, internationally reliable date presentation. 

  • Consistent format: Dates are now entered and displayed in the YYYY-MM-DD format across both Meridian and WorldCat Entities. 
  • Improved reliability: The new format ensures a consistent presentation of date data. 
  • Significant Dates section: The updated date format applies to the Significant Dates section in the entity viewer and when adding or editing data in the Significant Dates section.

Accessibility Enhancements (Meridian and WorldCat Entities) 

Accessibility improvements include: better screen reader navigation, easier reading at high zoom levels, and clearer indicators for required fields. 

User Interface Changes (Updated Pages) 

  • Entity Viewer page (WorldCat Entities and Meridian) — New Images section displaying IIIF Manifest thumbnail image(s). 
  • Entity Viewer page (WorldCat Entities and Meridian) — Updated Significant Dates section displaying dates in the YYYY-MM-DD format. 
  • Add/Edit section (Meridian) — New Images section with the ability to add or edit the IIIF Manifest (wco:iiifManifest) property. 
  • Add/Edit section (Meridian) — Updated Significant Dates section for entering dates in the YYYY-MM-DD format.
