Why is there an empty 090 $b field when I pull up a record?

Symptom

  • Every time I pull up a record, new or old there's an empty 090 $b field that cannot be deleted, even after saving.

Applies to

  • Connexion client
  • Gestione record WorldShare

Resolution

The presence of an empty 090 is not a glitch; the program is working as intended. The 090 field is one that is always automatically supplied by the program in a workform, and it does not generate any errors or prevent work with the record if it only contains the $b as seen here. It is indeed seen in every record viewed in Connexion or Record Manager, but it is not really registered unless it is in use (for example, stats show only about 2.5 million WorldCat records with an 090 field, even though every record viewed displays a blank one). It may look odd especially if you don't utilize 090 in your work, but it is not hindering record use or part of any error.

Additional information

You can contact bibchange@oclc.org if you would like to report anything that looks strange in a WorldCat record, or if you need to report any bad data, suspected duplicates, suspected bad merges, or other changes to records you are unable to do yourself.
