Edit or delete templates
Learn how to edit or delete a template in CONTENTdm (new version).
Edit a template
From the Metadata templates screen:
- Select the pencil icon in the Actions column for the template you want to edit.
- Optional. Edit the Template Name.
- Optional. Click the Select properties to edit the desired properties.
- Use the Search bar to retrieve specific properties or browse through the list.
- Click on the desired property(ies) under All metadata properties and use the arrow buttons ot move them to the Properties in template section.
- Additionally, use the arrow buttons to remove properties from the Properties in template list.
- Select Transfer all to include all the available properties. Use the Remove all button to remove all the selected properties for the template.

Available metadata properties are managed in Metadata properties.

The settings selected on the property under Metadata properties can be overwritten on a template-by-template basis.

- Optional. Use the arrows in the Order column to reorder the property appearance in the template. You can also directly change the number in the text box to change the order.
- Optional. Select whether the property is Required for the collection. The Required setting in the template overrides what is set at the property level.
- Optional. Determine if there are any constraints on the property. Constraints in the template override those set at the property level.
- Options include:
- Vocabulary: This property is constrained to a specific vocabulary. Select the vocabulary to use for the property. Refer to Manage vocabularies for more information. Managed options include:
- DCMI Type Vocabulary
- FAST Corporate Names
- FAST Event
- FAST Form
- FAST Geographic
- FAST Meeting
- FAST Personal Names
- FAST Topic
- FAST Uniform Titles

Notes: To add additional custom vocabularies, refer to Controlled vocabularies.- If the property is constrained by more than one vocabulary, you will first see results from the first vocabulary selected.
- Date: This property is constrained by date.
- If no Constraints are selected, the property will be a text entry field.
- Vocabulary: This property is constrained to a specific vocabulary. Select the vocabulary to use for the property. Refer to Manage vocabularies for more information. Managed options include:

- Click Save.
- From the template screen, select Set as default to make this the default template to use. Click Continue from the resulting confirmation screen.
- When new collections are created, this template will be used.
- From the template screen, select Associated collections to view the collections currently using this template or update them to a different template if necessary.
Delete a template
A template can only be deleted if it is not associated with any collections and is not set as the default template.
From the Metadata templates screen:
- Select the trashcan icon from the Actions column for the template to be deleted.
OR - Click on the template name to be deleted. From the template screen, select the Delete button.
- Select Delete from the Confirm deletion screen.
- The template is deleted.
