When attempting to check in an item, we get this error message: "You must identify your current location. Please select a branch from the user options menu."

Symptom

  • When attempting to check in this item, we get this error message: "You must identify your current location. Please select a branch from the user options menu."

  • WorldShare Circulation 

Resolution

First, search the barcode in Circulation > Discover Items to check the item status. If it is associated with a since-deleted branch, that could be causing this. Click View/Edit in MARC 21 to confirm that the item is in WorldCat. If the item is not in WorldCat, add it to the desired LHR.

If the item is in WorldCat or belongs to a now-deleted branch, you may be able to resolve this issue by checking in the item with a different branch, then checking in the item in the owning branch.

  1. Under your name in the upper right of the WorldShare window, switch your location to a different branch
  2. Check the item in
  3. Change location back to the owning branch
  4. Check the item in

If this does not resolve the error, please contact OCLC Support with the barcode of the affected item.
