Begin planning your transition to Next-Generation Notifications

We're upgrading how your library connects with patrons through Next-Generation Notifications—a more flexible and customizable messaging system for WorldShare Management Services (WMS). Your existing notifications will continue working through June 28, 2027 while you transition at your own pace. We recommend you begin planning your transition now.

Please see Getting ready for Next-Generation Notifications for everything you'll need to get started.

Group aware libraries: Ensure a consistent patron experience by enabling NGNs at the same time

For group aware libraries, enable Next-Generation Notifications (NGNs) concurrently across all member institutions to ensure a consistent patron experience. When any member library enables a single NGN, its legacy notification will be disabled, so coordinate a single rollout window across the consortium to avoid mixed notification experiences for patrons who borrow from multiple libraries.

For fiscal notifications, all member institutions must also ensure that billing templates are configured and assigned to all patron type policies prior to rollout to avoid receipt interruptions.

Configure billing templates for all patron types before using billing notifications

With this release, billing notifications (including bill resolution confirmations and printed or emailed receipts) are available in Next-Generation Notifications (NGNs). Before enabling billing notifications in production, institutions must create billing templates and assign them to all applicable patron type policies.

If a billing template is not assigned for a patron type, staff may be unable to generate a printed or emailed receipt at the time a bill is resolved. Receipts cannot be recreated after the transaction is completed.

We strongly recommend reviewing your billing notification templates and patron type policy assignments in advance—especially in group-aware environments—to ensure uninterrupted receipt delivery at service desks.

Nuove funzionalità e miglioramenti

View and manage Shared Print commitments in the LHR text view editor

When viewing a Local Holdings Record (LHR) with a Shared Print commitment in the LHR text view editor, you will now see the information about the Shared Print commitment directly in the interface. Previously, you were only able to see this information in the LHR MARC 21 editor.
WorldShare Circulation Item details screen showing the Shared Print field with a value of Yes highlighted in a red box.

Additionally, a warning message will now display if you attempt to delete a copy with a Shared Print commitment (where the 583 field contains a "committed to retain" note). You can still delete the copy, but you must confirm the deletion by clicking Delete in the warning dialog. This prevents you from unintentionally deleting an LHR with a Shared Print commitment.
A warning dialog box titled Delete the monograph item with the text "The LHR also has a Shared Print statement." highlighted in a red box.

Please note that the Shared Print commitment information and deletion warning have been added to the modernized pages of the LHR text view editor, which are currently only available in the Circulation module. As other WorldShare applications integrate the modernized UI, this information will become available there as well.

Digby 3.8 required update

Digby 3.8 is now available and is a required update for your library's users. We have made back-end changes to Digby allowing it to process more data off the app, which will use less of your device's resources and save battery life. You must update to the newest version of Digby before you can continue using the app. If you do not update, you will not be able to log in, and features like Change Item Location may no longer work.

External request IDs for patron notifications

External request IDs are now included on Next-Generation Notifications (NGNs) for relevant loan and overdue notices.

Note: No changes are made to legacy (non-NGN) notifications.

Reminder: Try out the new WorldShare Circulation user interface

The new WorldShare Circulation user interface (UI) is now on by default. This interface introduces several accessibility improvements to better support users with low vision, mobility limitations, and multilingual needs, aligning with WCAG 2.2 standards.

  • Higher contrast for text and icons, and slightly larger font and icon sizes to meet minimum target size requirements.
  • A new font supports over 150 languages and improves disambiguation (e.g., distinguishing zeroes from O's) to reduce reading errors.
  • Consistent heading structure and a side menu navigation that allows more than one accordion to be open at a time.
  • All components are keyboard operable with a double focus ring to improve focus visibility.
  • Numerous improvements to browsing, viewing, and creating events for rooms, including the ability to click a 30-minute slot on the calendar to automatically open the Create Event form.

WorldShare Circulation Assist patrons screen displaying a patron's account overview and checkout tab in the modernized user interface.

These changes reduce cognitive load, improve performance on small displays, and increase keyboard efficiency for staff. We encourage you to share your feedback in the OCLC Community Center or contact OCLC Support if you notice any issues.

Correzioni di errori

Assist patrons screen

You can now view a patron's account in the Assist patrons screen without the screen jumping or splitting. Previously, the screen would jump or split when viewing a patron account on certain monitor resolutions or scaling settings.

Select items dialog

You can now successfully open temporary or withdrawn items from the Select items dialog. Previously, clicking these items in the dialog would result in a "Server communication failed" or "Unknown barcode" error.

Modernized UI fixes

We continue to make adjustments to the new Circulation UI based on your feedback. Please continue posting in the Community Center if you have suggestions for improvements!

Bill resolution notifications

When patrons make partial payments across multiple selected bills, you can now see accurate bill information on Next-Gen (NGN) bill resolution receipts printed or emailed from the Staff UI. Previously, partial payments would result in the receipt incorrectly including bills that received no payment, and the "Bill Amount Resolved" field displayed the total amount to pay rather than the specific amount resolved for each individual bill.

Collection Type Policy settings

You can now successfully move locations to a new or existing rule within the WMS Circulation > Collection Type Policy settings in OCLC Service Configuration. Previously, attempting to move selected locations would cause the page to get stuck indefinitely on a loading screen.

Place hold dialog

The pickup location field in the Place hold dialog now correctly populates with its default value.
