I receive a "barcode is duplicated" error message when receiving a serial issue in Acquisitions
Symptom
- When receiving a serial issue in WorldShare Acquisitions, you receive the error: "Barcode is duplicated"
Applies to
- WorldShare Acquisitions
Resolution
This error occurs when the barcode you are receiving has been received in Acquisitions in the past. To resolve this issue, search for the barcode in Acquisitions, Record Manager, or Circulation to identify the record on which it was received, and unreceive it. We recommend reviewing this documentation on unreceiving issues before you do so.
If the LHR on which the problematic barcode was initially received is deleted before the issue in unreceived, the barcode is "orphaned" and cannot be reused. To avoid this problem, unreceive the serial issues before deleting the LHR. This will ensure continuity for the barcodes, and allow them to be received on a different record.
Serials management processes for unreceiving rely on issues being on the same LHR on which they were received. If you move the issues to a different LHR before unreceiving, those serials management processes will not be able to find the issue to complete the process. It is recommended that if you wish to use serials management for post-receiving actions like unreceiving and binding, you should not modify the issues in question beforehand.
