Shared Print retention analysis

Discover how to explore Shared Print retentions with Choreo Insights.

Overview

With Choreo Insights, you can explore Shared Print retentions across all WorldCat, by individual Shared Print programs, or at your own institution. Some common uses for exploring Shared Print retentions and programs with Choreo Insights:

  • Assess how well your university collection aligns with key academic programs
  • Analyze and address your collection diversity
  • Explore how your collection compares to others in your Shared Print program to drive collaboration
  • Learn how to leverage the strength of your collection

View titles with low Shared Print retentions in WorldCat

  1. Navigate to Insights > Insights Builder.
  2. For Select Analysis Type, select All.
  3. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  4. Expand the WorldCat Holdings filter.
  5. Select the Any Edition (WorkIDs) radio button to restrict results to holdings of any edition of the work.
  6. Choose Fewer Than from the drop-down list.
  7. Enter a number in the text box (e.g., 20).
  8. (Optional) Select other Query Filters you would like to apply to narrow down your results (e.g., Formats). For a list of all available filters, see About the Insights Builder.
  9. (Optional) To identify which titles only your library holds in WorldCat among your larger Shared Print group:
    1. From the Select Analysis type drop-down menu, select Distinct.
    2. Input the Comparator Group(s) (B) you would like to use by typing a name into the text box or using the drop-down menu.
  10. Click RUN REPORT.

View titles with no Shared Print retentions in WorldCat

  1. Navigate to Insights > Insights Builder.
  2. For Select Analysis Type, select All.
  3. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  4. Expand the WorldCat Shared Print Retentions filter.
  5. Select the Any Edition (WorkIDs) radio button to restrict results to holdings of any edition of the work.
  6. From the drop-down list, select Equal To.
  7. Enter 0 in the text box.
  8. (Optional) Select any other Query Filters you would like to apply to narrow down your results. For a list of all available filters, see About the Insights Builder.
  9. (Optional) To identify which titles only your library holds in WorldCat among your larger Shared Print group:
    1. From the Select Analysis Type drop-down menu, select Distinct.
    2. Input the Comparator Group(s) (B) you would like to use by typing a name into the text box or using the drop-down menu.
  10. Click RUN REPORT.

View titles not retained in a Shared Print program

The following workflow helps determine which titles in your collection are not retained in a specific Shared Print program. If your library is considering participation in a Shared Print program, knowing which unique titles you can contribute may help inform your decision. 

Step 1. View your library's titles

  1. From Select Analysis Type, select All (default).
  2. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click RUN REPORT. 
  4. The report will yield all titles in your collection. Make note of the number of Results.

Step 2: View titles already retained by a specific Shared Print program

  1. Expand the WorldCat Shared Print Retentions filter.
  2. From the drop-down list, select More Than.
  3. Enter 0 in the text box.
  4. Select the Specific Shared Print Programs radio button.
  5. Select the radio button for the Shared Print program that you are considering participating in.
  6. Click RUN REPORT. 
  7. The report will yield titles retained in the Shared Print program. Make note of the number of Results.

Step 3: Determine your unique titles

To determine if your collection holds any unique titles that are not retained by the Shared Print program:

  1. Subtract the number of results from Step 2 from the number of results from Step 1.

Step 4: View your library's Shared Print retention candidates

  1. From Select Analysis Type, select All (default).
  2. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  3. Expand the WorldCat Shared Print Retentions filter.
  4. From the drop-down list, select Equal To.
  5. Enter 0 in the text box.
  6. Select the Specific Shared Print Programs radio button.
  7. Select the radio button for the Shared Print program that you want to compare.
  8. Click RUN REPORT. 
  9. The report will yield a list of titles in your collection that are not retained in the Shared Print program.

Explore titles retained in your collection

View titles retained locally

  1. From Select Analysis Type, select All (default).
  2. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  3. Expand the Local Shared Print Retentions filter.
  4. Select My Library Retains.
  5. Click RUN REPORT.  The titles your library retains display.

View titles uniquely retained in WorldCat

To view titles that are only retained by your library across WorldCat:

  1. From Select Analysis Type, select All (default).
  2. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  3. Expand the Local Shared Print Retentions filter.
  4. Select My Library Retains.
  5. Expand the WorldCat Shared Print Retentions filter.
  6. From the drop-down list, select Equal To.
  7. Enter 1 in the text box.
  8. Click RUN REPORT.

View titles uniquely retained by your Shared Print program

To view titles that are only retained by your Shared Print program across WorldCat:

  1. From Select Analysis Type, select All (default).
  2. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  3. Expand the Local Shared Print Retentions filter.
  4. Select My Library Retains.
  5. Expand the WorldCat Shared Print Retentions filter.
  6. From the drop-down list, select Equal To.
  7. Enter 1 in the text box.
  8. Enable the Specific Shared Print Programs radio button.
  9. Enable the radio button for your shared print program.
  10. Click RUN REPORT.

View titles not retained locally

You can view all items not retained locally to determine new retention candidates for your collection.

  1. From Select Analysis Type, select All (default).
  2. Input your institution(s) into My Libraries (A) by typing or choosing from the drop-down menu.
  3. Expand the Local Shared Print Retentions filter.
  4. Select My Library Does Not Retain.
  5. Select Query Filters to narrow down your retention candidates. For a list of all available filters, see About the Insights Builder.
  6. (Optional) To see which titles are also not retained in your Shared Print program:
    1. Expand the WorldCat Shared Print Retentions filter.
    2. From the drop-down list, select Equal To.
    3. Enter 0 in the text box.
    4. Enable the Specific Shared Print Programs radio button.
    5. Enable the radio button for your shared print program.
  7. Click RUN REPORT.
