New features and enhancements

WorldCat Comparison

Choreo Insights now gives you and your library the ability to compare your library's collection and any uploaded title lists to specific countries, states, and regions in WorldCat. The ability to perform these types of analysis can help your library better understand areas of collection strengths and collection gaps by geography.

Selecting WorldCat Comparison

When you decide to compare your institution or a title list to a WorldCat region, you will start by selecting WorldCat from the dropdown called "Compare the A Group with:". The default option, "Libraries or Lists" lets you compare to specific institutions and title lists in the B group. When you select WorldCat from the dropdown, the options to compare against Libraries or Title Lists in the B Group will be removed.

Changing Holding Location

After you select WorldCat from the "Compare the A Group with:" drop down, the query filter called Holding Location will become available to use. This filter will allow you select countries, and available states or provinces in those countries to perform comparisons against. You and Choreo users at your library can select multiple countries and states for analysis. Other Choreo query filters can be applied as usual.

After you run your Choreo query, the holding symbols for the region(s) you selected for your analysis will be available in the CSV export under the group holdings column. This column will list symbols for all libraries part of the selected region that have holdings that match your query results.

Finding your Unique Holdings in your Region

One thing that may immediately interest you with Choreo Insights is identifying unique holdings within a particular country, state, or region. The new WorldCat comparison functionality enables you to quickly and easily determine these special items. In order to run this query, you will need to compare the A Group with WorldCat. Note: If you are interested in seeing what you hold uniquely in WorldCat, that can be done by having your library in the A group, leaving the B group blank, and then setting the WorldCat Holdings filter based on OCN as equal to 1. This can be done when comparing to Libraries or Lists in WorldCat.

The basic query you will want to configure in order to see unique holdings in a particular region is the following:

  • Analysis Type: Overlap
  • Group Holdings: Same Edition (OCN) = 1

Any other filters you would like to apply, such as year of publication, LC Class, or FAST can be applied as normal. Once you have the base query set up all you need to do is select the "Run Report" button, and you will have the results you are looking for.

Date Added to WorldCat

Choreo Insights now gives you and your library the ability to filter by the date that an item was added to WorldCat. This new functionality will help you and your library with your Choreo queries as you look to see when new material is added to WorldCat. This feature is a direct result of your feedback.

Note: This new filter only affects the B Group libraries, lists, and regions.
