WEBVTT 1 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:00:03.779 --> 00:00:23.779 Hi, Welcome to today's session Foundations of Connexion client. My name is Crystal Rodriguez and I am a product trainer with oclc's member education team. Today we will begin with a quick glance. 2 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:00:23.779 --> 00:00:32.370 At OCLC and WorldCat, we will then look at some basic information on starting Connexion client, navigating the interface. 3 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:00:32.370 --> 00:00:52.050 Copy cataloging and working with lists of records. Lastly, we will review options for finding online help for cataloging and how to contact OCLC support. To accompany this course and for future reference, you will want to review the learner guide that I'm going to add in the chat here. 4 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:00:52.050 --> 00:01:12.050 And I'm going to go ahead and click over real quick and show you also how you can access this yourself. So if you go to oc.lc/training, that will take you to our training page. And 1st of all, you'll see our upcoming training. This is where you see. 5 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:01:12.050 --> 00:01:32.050 Sign up for this class and if you have not signed up for future classes, you can do that there. But we want to look at Connexion client self paced training, and here you'll see a couple of videos, and I'm gonna talk about this new item here in a moment. But when you go to the recordings, you can see the learner guide there. You'll also see. 6 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:01:32.050 --> 00:01:51.330 See it when you're registering as well. And just a moment to highlight a new training option that we have. This is a self paced module that walks you through configuring some basic options for Connexion. We're going to do that during this session, but this would be a nice way for you to review that. 7 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:01:51.330 --> 00:02:11.330 And here's that learner guide visible for you, so you can use that during the session and for future reference. Okay, so OCLC is a global library organization that provides. 8 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:02:11.330 --> 00:02:13.290 Shared technology services. 9 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:02:13.290 --> 00:02:33.290 Original research and community programs for its members and the library community at large. OCLC provides services to all types of libraries in more than 100 countries. Libraries use OCLC for library management, discovery, inter library loan, cataloging, and more. 10 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:02:33.290 --> 00:02:51.960 And you can find some links for additional information about OCLC in that learner guide. WorldCat is the world's most comprehensive database of information about library collections. 11 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:02:51.960 --> 00:03:11.960 WorldCat has more than 500 million bibliographic records for popular and unique items, meaning that you'll probably find a record for the item that you are copy cataloging. And here on our screen, we see some links for WorldCat statistics and a fun watch WorldCat grow link where you can see. 12 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:03:11.960 --> 00:03:23.610 As holdings are being added and new titles are being added, and both of those links are also in the learner guide. 13 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:03:23.610 --> 00:03:43.610 OCLC offers two interfaces to access Worldcat for cataloging purposes. Within the WorldShare Management Services platform, libraries can use WorldShare Record Manager if it's activated. Additionally, libraries can use Connexion client which is downloaded on staff workstations. Today we would. 14 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:03:43.610 --> 00:03:59.970 Be taking a look at Connexion client. The current version of the client is 3.1, which is what I will be using for this course. However, version 2.63 is still supported and recommended for any libraries that are using an older version of Microsoft. 15 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:03:59.970 --> 00:04:19.970 So with that being said, you may see a slightly different screen than what you have, but mostly it's gonna be the same. If you need information on installing Connexion client or you would like to compare the two cataloging interfaces, see the link in the learner guide for a chart that shows a comparison of the OCLC. 16 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:04:19.970 --> 00:04:23.100 Applications. 17 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:04:23.100 --> 00:04:40.019 Within WorldCat, there is one principal record for each manifestation of a title. This is referred to as the WorldCat record. This is the cooperative record that is stored in WorldCat for a specific item. 18 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:04:40.019 --> 00:04:59.009 Libraries attach holdings to matching WorldCat records to indicate that they own the title. WorldCat allows you to find a matching record and begin to edit for local purposes. When you begin to edit or lock a record, you begin to work with a working copy of that record. 19 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:04:59.009 --> 00:05:15.929 With this working copy of the record, multiple libraries can view the same record simultaneously. Any edits that are made do not affect the WorldCat record unless the library chooses the replace option for that record. 20 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:05:15.929 --> 00:05:34.049 Typically holdings are then set on the record, and the working copy record is exported to enable transfer to your local catalog. And here we see a graphic showing the typical process for copy cataloging in WorldCat client. 21 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:05:34.049 --> 00:05:51.059 1st, you will look for a matching record using the cataloging menu, and then once you confirm the match, you will then decide if any local edits are needed. Edit options are found in the edit menu. 22 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:05:51.059 --> 00:06:07.529 Using the action menu, you'll set your library holdings and then likely export the record to be later added to your local system. To determine the best match. 23 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:06:07.529 --> 00:06:24.449 You will compare the fields in the record against the item that you have. Libraries typically select a record based on the number of library holdings, the presence of DLC in the field 040, which indicates that that. 24 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:06:24.449 --> 00:06:44.449 Record was added or edited by the Library of Congress or they may look at for records that have a full encoding level, indicating that the record has been enhanced or that it's, it has the. 25 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:06:44.449 --> 00:06:48.479 Necessary field essentially. 26 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:06:48.479 --> 00:07:05.339 So, as noted, sorry, as noted here on our screen, you'll want to compare the title, addition statement, publisher, and physical description. However, a significant difference in any of these fields. 27 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:07:05.339 --> 00:07:25.339 Does not necessarily mean that it's a match or not, and we'll talk about in a future session how you can determine that. Or actually I apologize in the learner guide, there is a link to the OCLC bibliographic formats and standards, and you can find information there on whether or not. 28 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:07:25.339 --> 00:07:44.249 The item is a match, and when to create a new record. And we will discuss that further in future sessions. OCLC continuously works to minimize duplicate records. 29 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:07:44.249 --> 00:08:01.589 So if you see duplication, you can send an email to our biblographic change team at bibchange@OCLC.org and I'm adding that to the chat for you now. And then for additional information on MARC biblographic. 30 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:08:01.589 --> 00:08:21.059 Format and the different tags and fields. You'll want to see the short video that's entitled MARC Bibliographic Basics, and that is linked in that learner guide, and you can also get to it through that training page that I showed earlier. 31 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:08:21.059 --> 00:08:41.059 Okay, let me go ahead and open up my WorldCat and show that to you gotta slide it over here. So before we begin the copy cataloging process, we do need. 32 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:08:41.059 --> 00:08:51.809 To configure our WorldCat client. So our 1st step is going to be setting up a default authorization for logging in. If you need assistance with your library's authorizations. 33 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:08:51.809 --> 00:09:08.069 Please contact our Order Services team at orders@oclc.org and I'm adding their email into the chat as well. So to set up that authorization, we're going to start at the tools menu, which I have at the top of my screen. 34 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:09:08.069 --> 00:09:23.189 And then we're gonna select options, and we select authorizations, and you'll see that I don't have any default authorizations added at this time. So I'm going to go ahead and add an authorization number. 35 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:09:28.229 --> 00:09:48.209 And then a password, and I can enter a name so that I know that this is my authorization number. You don't have to do that part, but it is helpful to help you identify these. And you can add up to ten authorization numbers, so I'm going to go ahead and add a second one. 36 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:09:48.209 --> 00:10:08.209 That my library has set up. This is helpful if you maybe have multiple people working on the same workstation and you want each of them to be able to access their own authorization information. And then you do have the option of not setting. 37 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:10:08.209 --> 00:10:15.179 The default authorization, that's again helpful if you have lots of authorization set up and I'll show what happens. 38 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:10:15.179 --> 00:10:33.509 Actually let me not do that and I'll show what happens if you don't have a default. So I'm gonna go ahead and leave the no default authorization checked. I'm gonna click apply and click close. And now when I go to log on, I'm gonna go to file log on because I did not choose a default. 39 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:10:33.509 --> 00:10:48.929 I'm going to be able to use the dropdown and pick from there. I also have the option of going directly to the setup authorizations from this file log on screen. So I'm going to go ahead and do that and choose that default now. 40 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:10:48.929 --> 00:11:05.279 Click apply, close, and note that if I cancel here and I go back to file log on, now my default is showing automatically for me. I'm going to go ahead and click ok and click close. 41 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:11:05.279 --> 00:11:23.339 And I'll point out that even though I had that default I did still see the dropdown to be able to choose other authorization numbers if needed. Okay, the next setup option that's helpful is our startup options. 42 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:11:23.339 --> 00:11:40.319 So for that, we're going to go to tools options, and we're gonna choose general this time, and we're gonna choose startup options. So right now, I do not have an action to run automatically when I start client. So. 43 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:11:40.319 --> 00:11:56.129 I can choose to run a macro automatically or I can start a client function. So maybe I want to make sure that the search box opens up for me automatically. I can click on start a client function and then choose. 44 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:11:56.129 --> 00:12:16.129 Log on and search WorldCat. And there's several other options as well. So I'm going to go ahead and click that and click apply, close. And now if I log on, unfortunately I can't actually show this to you because it'll open on a different screen. Let's try it. If I go log off and I. 45 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:12:16.129 --> 00:12:18.119 I say file log on. 46 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:12:18.119 --> 00:12:37.259 What's gonna happen is that box might open up on a different screen for me, but let's see. Yeah, it didn't work for me because it kind of opened on the another screen, so I can't really show you that, but you would see that the search box would open automatically for you. Okay. 47 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:12:37.259 --> 00:12:54.179 The next step step in my configuration is to set up my export destination. So I'm going to go again to tools options. You'll see that most of our setup is under this tools option menu. But this time I'm going to choose export. 48 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:12:54.179 --> 00:13:14.179 And I have the option to have Connexion prompt me to add a file name each time, but it's best to set up a file, create a location. So I'm going to go ahead and click create. And here I'm given the option of an export destination to a file. 49 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:13:14.179 --> 00:13:15.779 On my computer. 50 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:13:15.779 --> 00:13:35.779 Or I do have a couple of other options. This OCLC gateway export is sometimes referred to as as TCP IP, and that's a lot of, local systems have an option for you to set that up. If I were to choose that I'm just gonna go ahead and click on that so you see I have to enter in some info. 51 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:13:35.779 --> 00:13:40.109 Information that is provided to me by my local system. 52 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:13:40.109 --> 00:13:56.159 And that would, with that setup, your exports will go directly into your local system. But for my purposes, I want to go ahead and create a file, so I'm going to leave it as file, click ok, and then I get my file box here. This is extremely important. 53 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:13:56.159 --> 00:14:11.189 Do not add your file name to this Connexion program file. I don't know why it automatically opens there, but if you do that, your exports will not work. So you need to put them in a location on your workstation. 54 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:14:11.189 --> 00:14:28.199 That's not this program file. So generally I just add them to my desktop or you could, you know, create a separate folder, so I'm just gonna go ahead and find my desktop here. And then I'm just going to name this export one. 55 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:14:28.199 --> 00:14:46.499 Click open, and here I see that the export destination path is laid out for me, and I'll click ok. And now I see that under my destinations and to change your destination, you're just gonna double click. So if I wanted to switch to that prompt I could do that. 56 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:14:46.499 --> 00:15:02.519 Having multiple files destinations can be helpful. I've heard reasons such as maybe again different people working on this workstation or maybe you want to have your files separated by specific time period or specific. 57 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:15:02.519 --> 00:15:21.539 Projects, so you can have as many export files as needed. And we'll walk through some the some more on export destinations in a future session when we review record editing and processing. 58 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:15:25.619 --> 00:15:42.059 Another option is to set up your toolbars, so that is on this toolbar tab here. We have a couple of options. When we go there, we can choose standard or large buttons. I have the standard which you can see are a little bit small, so if I click on large. 59 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:15:42.059 --> 00:15:59.549 And I click apply and close. When I close out of my Connexion, which I'll do real quick to show you, and I go back in, it will have those be large for me. Just taking a moment to open those up. 60 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:15:59.549 --> 00:16:18.239 Sorry, I need to I see. Here we go. So you can see that those toolbar buttons are much larger for me. So that's one nice option there. You also can go to view. 61 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:16:18.239 --> 00:16:36.149 And then choose toolbars. And this is where you can choose which toolbars are visible. So right now I have all of them selected. So I have my client toolbar, I have my quick search, and then I also have the quick tools. So let's say I don't want that quick search. 62 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:16:36.149 --> 00:16:56.149 I'll just click out of that and it goes away. I personally really like having it, so I would recommend it. I'm gonna go ahead and put it back on there Okay and then the last of the setup and features that I want to show you. 63 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:16:56.149 --> 00:17:05.819 Is to adjust your font type and size for displaying and printing records and lists and or printing labels. 64 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:17:05.819 --> 00:17:23.039 So to do that, we're gonna go again to tools options, and we see the fonts option. So we have right now, the default is 16. I have my displays display size set to 17. I'll go ahead and up it to 18 just so you can see when we go to a record. 65 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:17:23.039 --> 00:17:43.039 I'm gonna leave my list the same as 17 though cause I want to see more records there. And then you can also adjust your font size for some label printing as well. I'm gonna go ahead and click apply and close. Now unfortunately that does not change the font size of my menu. As I mentioned, I can't really change that, but it will change the font size when I am. 66 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:17:43.039 --> 00:17:49.019 Searching and what my results are. 67 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:17:49.019 --> 00:18:05.759 All right. So now that I've completed the setup, I need to search for a bibliographic record, so let's do that together and we'll review what we see there. So I have a couple of options, I can use this quick toolbox, but I'm going to go ahead and click on the cataloging menu. 68 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:18:05.759 --> 00:18:25.759 Choose search, and then I will choose WorldCat, but I want to point out when you are using Connexion, you'll see on all of your actions that there is both your toolbar icon and a shortcut key. So if you're at any point wondering what those would be, if you prefer to use shortcuts, you can. 69 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:18:25.759 --> 00:18:30.629 See what that is. There is also information on these in that learner guide. 70 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:18:30.629 --> 00:18:50.629 So I'm just gonna go ahead and click on WorldCat, and that opens up my display. I'm gonna clear my previous search that I had done that. All right. And we're gonna go ahead and search for an OCLC number. When we're searching for an OCLC number, we need to either use the number sign or. 71 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:18:50.629 --> 00:19:10.589 Or we would use the index NO if we're using the command line search here. You also do have the option of using keyword numeric search. For that, you'll use a dropdown to choose the keyword, the index, so I can actually choose OCLC number there and search. 72 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:19:10.589 --> 00:19:29.099 In my box there. So let's do that. And then when you do that, you don't need to add that prefix then I can either hit enter or OK to create that search. I think I typed incorrectly. Let me try that again. Let me try it up here. 73 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:19:29.099 --> 00:19:48.899 Cause I I'm sure I just typed something wrong There we go. In Connexion syncing. And so here is where when we adjusted that font size, it adjusts the size that we're seeing on this screen. 74 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:19:48.899 --> 00:20:08.899 And let's review what we see on our screen here. So at the very top of our page, we can see the title bar, and so that is going to indicate, actually I'm sorry, very, very top up here we see our search index. So we see that we searched and that our result is in the heights. We see our menu and our toolbar. 75 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:20:08.899 --> 00:20:26.789 But then right underneath of that is where we'll see the OCLC number and we see how many holdings this title has. So we see that there are 875 other libraries that hold this item, but we also see that our library does not currently hold this item. 76 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:20:32.459 --> 00:20:51.239 And then as I mentioned, we've got our menu bar. Each of those have little sub menus essentially, so you can search through and see what each of those would do, and we'll review the pertinent ones throughout today's session. And as I mentioned, you can see that icon and your keystroke as well. 77 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:20:51.239 --> 00:21:11.239 In when you're looking at the toolbars, if you're unsure of what one of these icons do, you can just hover over it and it gives you the action that that icon will manage. Then as I mentioned, here's our holding status bar, and then right under that in my screen. 78 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:21:11.239 --> 00:21:14.009 Can I have the fixed fields? 79 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:21:14.009 --> 00:21:34.009 And I can change where those are viewed. Actually, let me, I'll come back to that in a second. Before I show you that, I want to look down at the bottom of the screen where we see the status bar. And underneath of there, in the status bar, we see a few things. We'll see some actions if they have been taking place. We'll see these as we go on our session. 80 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:21:34.009 --> 00:21:46.259 But you would see a C for complete or if you're doing offline cataloging, which you'll learn in a free future session, you would see R for ready or F for failed. 81 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:21:46.259 --> 00:22:05.789 But what we do see is we see a status, which I'm gonna talk about how I set that up shortly, and then we see our institution and then we, the most important part is at the end of that line, we see our, timeout clock. This resets upon every action that you take within the record. 82 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:22:05.789 --> 00:22:20.939 But if you sit idle for 40 min, Connexion will send you a warning and it will close down. So you'll want to pay attention to that. Real quick jumping back to that status, so if we go to tools options. 83 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:22:20.939 --> 00:22:40.939 We see the tab for my status. I have a status there where I set my ocls or my initials on my bibliographic records. What that is helpful for is as I am working within Connexion, if I'm saving records or I need to go back for some reason. 84 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:22:40.939 --> 00:23:01.309 It will indicate that I took action on that. And we talk about this again in a future session, but I just wanted to quickly show you that. Okay. 85 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:23:01.309 --> 00:23:15.809 So that is just sort of the major, the big part of our screen there, and I'll talk a little bit more in a, in a future example. I'm going to X out of the small x. You may have seen me do that to close that record. 86 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:23:15.809 --> 00:23:35.809 We will cover biblographic searching more in depth in our next session on biblographicic searching, but you're gonna see the basic steps within today's session. So you saw that basic step of cataloging, search WorldCat. I also can click the F two button to bring up that searching box there for me. 87 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:23:35.809 --> 00:23:54.599 I'm gonna cancel that because I want to show also this quick toolbox. I like using this for some of my easier numeric searches. So I'm just going to, it's This works the same way as the command line search. So I need to put in a pound sign. 88 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:23:54.599 --> 00:24:14.599 Or the n o for number. You also can use an asterisk for that as well, but I'm gonna go ahead and use the n o so you see that. And then I'm gonna enter in my OCLC number. 89 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:24:14.599 --> 00:24:19.679 Okay. 90 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:24:19.679 --> 00:24:36.119 And here I want to point out our, we see the 050 field, which is our library of Congress call number and the 082 field, which are is our Dewey call number. You also may note that on my record, I have a blank. 91 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:24:36.119 --> 00:24:54.059 090 field. Your library would either see a blank 090 or a blank 092 based on how your library is profiled for your library's classification. And this is helpful so that you can move that. 92 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:24:54.059 --> 00:25:11.189 LC or do we number information into a local field if you're editing those. So let me show you how I can do that. I'm going to go ahead and just highlight the 1st part of that, actually I'm gonna do the own. 93 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:25:11.189 --> 00:25:30.299 The 050 let me copy that. So I'm gonna highlight that and I can use right click to choose copy to copy the text, and then I will right click in the tag of the 090 in that field section and just click paste and I want to remove that. 94 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:25:30.299 --> 00:25:47.759 Previous information, and so we see that that was pasted in there. I'm gonna scroll down to the end of my record and I want to add a field. So to add a field, there's a couple of options, but I'm just going to go ahead and click enter. 95 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:25:47.759 --> 00:26:03.179 And that just adds a field right under there. You can also use right click, or you can use the edit menu there. So if you did edit, you would choose the insert. 96 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:26:03.179 --> 00:26:20.759 Blank field, and you can choose to put that above or below. So I'm going to start typing in a 590 field and you'll note that as I type, my cursor automatically moves from the tag to the indicators and I can just tab over. 97 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:26:20.759 --> 00:26:40.759 Because I don't, my indicators for my note here are blank, and I want to note that this item is donated, ok? And then I want to remove a couple of fields. So I see that this. 98 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:26:40.759 --> 00:26:54.629 bibliographic record has some 655 fields that my local system doesn't need. Pointing out again, by removing these, as long as I do not replace the record, I am not changing the WorldCat record itself. 99 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:26:54.629 --> 00:27:14.629 And you should not be doing that unless there is an error or a reason to upgrade this record, which we will talk about as well in a future session. For today's session on just copy cataloging, I'm just gonna remove these from my working copy. So to do that, I can use the right click and choose to like delete field or again I. 100 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:27:14.629 --> 00:27:18.989 To go to edit, cut copy paste, and just choose delete field. 101 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:27:18.989 --> 00:27:34.739 Also, I have that toolbar or the keystroke option, so I believe I saw that it was alt delete to remove with that keystroke option and. 102 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:27:34.739 --> 00:27:52.739 As we're looking at this record, we will note that the fields that we have changed have a little carrot next to them, little arrow carrot, to let us know that those are the fields that we have made edits to. All right. 103 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:27:52.739 --> 00:28:12.739 And now that I know that I've completed my editing, I need to move that 590 field into the right spot of the record. So for that, I'm going to use the reformat option, and this is going to resort the record. It will correct a few items such as like where things are listed. 104 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:28:12.739 --> 00:28:30.449 It will also correct case or isbn, e.g., and you can learn more about that on our support site and in that learner guide. So for that, I'm going to go ahead and go to the edit menu and choose reformat or again, I have my other options. 105 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:28:30.449 --> 00:28:50.189 I'm just gonna go ahead and use that. And you saw a quick little flash. Connexion does not let us know that the reformat was completed, but we can scroll through and we can see that our 590 is now moved to the bottom of the 5XX fields. 106 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:28:50.189 --> 00:29:05.369 The next thing that we do once we have made any local edits that we need, we want to add our holdings to WorldCat. Adding your holdings to WorldCat is, it's got a couple of the benefits. One specifically if your library uses interlibrary loan. 107 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:29:05.369 --> 00:29:22.559 This is helpful to avoid you getting any requests for items you don't have or not getting requests for items you do have. It's useful for discovery purposes and other uses within OCLC. 108 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:29:22.559 --> 00:29:42.559 So for that, I'm going to go ahead again and go, this time I'm going to go to the action menu to add my holdings. So that is under action holdings, and then I'm going to choose update holdings. Pausing here for a moment. There are some old legacy options here, so produce and. 109 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:29:42.559 --> 00:29:47.639 Update holdings is going to do the same thing that holding, that update holdings does. 110 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:29:47.639 --> 00:30:06.179 And honestly I'm not even sure what alternate produce and update does. It's that old. So I would just use update holdings. The produce used to produce an actual card catalog. We're not doing that anymore. So let's go ahead and just click update holdings. 111 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:30:06.179 --> 00:30:26.179 And once I do that, I see that my item now shows held by my library, and if I look at the bottom of the screen at my status bar, I see that C under update holdings to show that that was completed. 112 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:30:26.179 --> 00:30:36.329 And now that I've added my holdings, I want to export this record. So I have my toolbar option up here. If I hover over, I see that that's action export. 113 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:30:36.329 --> 00:30:56.329 And it's really handy because it tells me that that action is that it's in the action menu as well. So if I go over to action, I can click on export or I could have used the F5. So I'm going to click export, and again I don't really get a screen notification, but I can see in the status. 114 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:30:56.329 --> 00:31:02.669 Status bar that it shows that my export was completed. So now if I go to my. 115 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:31:02.669 --> 00:31:20.609 Desktop and I look, I should see a file, and I do so I'm just going to go ahead and click and open that for you though, so here we go. Let me move it over here. 116 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:31:20.609 --> 00:31:39.269 So I just double clicked on that export file, and here is the MARC record that we were looking at. There's that Helen Keller. So we can see the MARC record file there. And then you can use that file and and upload that into your local system as needed. 117 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:31:39.269 --> 00:31:57.479 Okay, before I move on to the next section, are there any questions on what we've just reviewed? I don't see anything, but feel free to add anything in chat if it comes up. Okay. 118 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:31:57.479 --> 00:32:15.569 Alright, I'm going to close out of this record, and again, I'll use that smaller X to close out of this record. If I use the big one I'm going to close out a Connexion. Alright. 119 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:32:15.569 --> 00:32:34.559 So I want to use the F2 shortcut key. Oh, I hear there is a question. Go ahead and type that and I'll jump I'm gonna go ahead and move on while you're typing, but I'll pause once I see that come up, ok? 120 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:32:34.559 --> 00:32:51.509 I'm going to use the F2 option to open up my search WorldCat, and this time I want to demonstrate searching for an ISBN number. So again I could use that keyword numeric search. 121 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:32:51.509 --> 00:33:08.369 I will say this is kind of helpful when you're 1st starting out if you're not used to the indexes because you can just click through the dropdown and find those. And we'll show more about that in the next session, but the index for the ISBN is BN. 122 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:33:08.369 --> 00:33:28.259 Colon and Andrea, go ahead and whenever you get a chance, you can just type in your question. Oh I see it now. Okay, let me pause actually since that question has come up. When exporting using the gateway, does that eliminate the need to export to desktop then import? Yes. 123 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:33:28.259 --> 00:33:47.609 That will just automatically export that record to your local system. Thank you for that question. It's a good one. But just keep in mind that not all local systems have that option. 124 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:33:47.609 --> 00:34:07.609 So you'll need to check with your local system provider for to find out for sure if they allow that and what information you need to enter into the export destination when you're doing that. You're welcome. All right, let's go back to our search. Feel free to add any questions at any time, guys. Alright, so I'm gonna clear my previous search. 125 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:34:07.609 --> 00:34:25.139 So, as I was saying BN colon is my index for ISBN, and I'm going to enter in an ISBN number, and then I'm just gonna hit enter. 126 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:34:25.139 --> 00:34:41.159 Yeah. Again, I must have typed something wrong. Let's see nine seven yep I did. I missed a9 798-88-9567. There we go. That should work. There we go. All right. 127 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:34:41.159 --> 00:34:56.279 So what I wanna show here is that we only get two results, which that's going to return what we refer to as a brief list. So when you get one to five records as your result. 128 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:34:56.279 --> 00:35:16.279 Then you're going to only get back a brief list. And we're gonna walk through the different types of lists that you will receive based on the number of searches results you get. So this time, in my quick search box, I want to go ahead and search for a title. The index for that is gonna be T I colon. 129 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:35:16.279 --> 00:35:32.339 And I'm gonna search for the title Connexion, and I want to add a qualifier for a date. So to add that qualifier in this search box, all I need to do is put the backslash, and then I'm going to put the date of 2003. 130 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:35:32.339 --> 00:35:51.089 And I'll hit enter. And here you'll note that I get 89 results. If we look at the bottom of our screen, we see the number of results, and this returns a truncated list. I know that for two reasons. One, when I look at the very top of the screen, it says WorldCat search truncated list. 131 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:35:51.089 --> 00:36:08.099 The other reason is because I know that if I get results of six to a hundred records, that will return a truncated list. Now more than a hundred records is going to return a group list, which we'll look at. 132 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:36:08.099 --> 00:36:25.259 Later on. The other thing I want to point out is when we look at our search list here at the top where it says WorldCat search truncated list, we also see what was searched. We see the indexes of TI colon Connexion. 133 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:36:25.259 --> 00:36:44.069 And then that added the Boolean and the year was automatically added because I added that backslash, So year 2003 that tells us what's being searched. If I want to open a single record, I am just going to click to highlight that record. I'll click it twice to open it. 134 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:36:44.069 --> 00:37:04.069 And that's going to allow me to just search a single or open a single record. With that record open, I do have some navigation buttons up at the top where I can move through the list. So I can use each of those to go forward through the list and you'll see at the bottom that the number of the records is changing. 135 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:37:04.069 --> 00:37:06.569 So right now I'm on nine of 89. 136 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:37:06.569 --> 00:37:26.569 I'll click over and go to ten of 89, and then I can click back and go backward as well. Now, to close just this record, I'm going to use that small little X there and my truncated list is still available for me. If I want to open a series of records. 137 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:37:26.569 --> 00:37:43.979 Then I'm going to click on the 1st record, so I'll click on this number nine, and then I want to open maybe nine through 15. So I will use shift and click through and then I'll just hit enter. 138 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:37:43.979 --> 00:38:02.069 And we'll see that Connexion opens number nine and I can click through to with using those navigation arrows to number 15, but we'll see that we don't go beyond that because we just opened those. 139 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:38:02.069 --> 00:38:19.200 Alright, so at closing that, if you want to open records that are not in a series, but you will need to open multiple records, let's say that I need to open record number 10, 20, and 25. I will click on number ten, and then I'm going to use control click. 140 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:38:19.200 --> 00:38:36.510 To click on number 20, and then number 25. And again, I can just hit enter, and just those three records are open for me. If I click through, I'm now on number 20, and there I'm on number 25. 141 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:38:36.510 --> 00:38:56.510 Alright, and we'll close out of that as well. Now I talked about the different lists options that appear. If there's a type of list that you prefer, you can set that as a default list. 142 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:38:56.510 --> 00:39:06.810 So that all of your WorldCat searches in Connexion client will open that way, assuming that you get enough results. So let's say that you want to see the full record. 143 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:39:06.810 --> 00:39:26.810 As your default. So you can use while you're in this list, click right, do the right click. You're gonna choose list settings. Actually, let me come back to that one actually. Yes, that's what I wanted to show. I apologize. I, what I was wanting to show was how you can change the columns that you're seeing. 144 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:39:26.810 --> 00:39:30.900 Being on your list. There is a way to do that default thing which I'll show in a moment. 145 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:39:30.900 --> 00:39:47.250 But this I want to show 1st. So let's say that my library wants to see the holdings, the number of holdings listed, I can click on that and then I can use the move up and down in order to. 146 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:39:47.250 --> 00:40:07.250 Move that amongst along the list here, so I can go up and have that holding show somewhere else and see how now I see the number of holdings and it's prior to the other fields. And I can scroll over here to see what each of these, like I can see that H really is held. 147 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:40:07.250 --> 00:40:27.560 You also can click on the title, e.g., to sort, so if you wanted to sort your results in alphabetical order, you can do that. You can also sort by whether or not that is held, and you can click twice to get to the top of that. The other area that I was talking about is actually if we open up our search box. 148 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:40:27.560 --> 00:40:33.150 Dialogue by going to cataloging search WorldCat. 149 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:40:33.150 --> 00:40:51.000 We have a settings here. Right now the system default is listed and that's that default of showing the results based on the number of records. But let's say that I want to have a full record open every time, I can use the dropdown to choose full record. 150 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:40:51.000 --> 00:41:11.000 And then I would just apply that. Alright, bear with me just one moment here. Thank you. All right. Now, let's say that you need to review several records. 151 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:41:11.000 --> 00:41:27.450 Wants to determine the best match, so you want to have this list open while you're looking at an individual record. To do that, you're going to use the windows menu to navigate between your records and your lists without having to close a record. 152 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:41:27.450 --> 00:41:47.450 I'm going to go ahead and open up number record 78 here by just double clicking. And right now that record is open. If I go to window, I can click, to click on the search list itself and then that takes me. 153 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:41:47.450 --> 00:42:05.550 Back to my list. Now, if I want to compare records, I'm going to go ahead and go to window. I want to go back to that other record, and what I need to do is pin this record. So for that, I'm going to go to the view menu. 154 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:42:05.550 --> 00:42:21.780 And choose pinned. And now when I go to window, I see the little that we're in that pinned window there, but I'm gonna jump back to that truncated list and I'm going to open up record number. 155 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:42:21.780 --> 00:42:41.220 23 here. And now when I click on window, I see my list, I see my previously pinned record, and I also see the new record that I have opened. So with that, I can compare the records. 156 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:42:41.220 --> 00:43:01.220 Again using the window menu here. So under window, I have the option to cascade each of my open windows, tile those vertically or horizontally. I personally prefer vertically, so now I can see all three of those open. I don't need my list anymore, so I'm going to. 157 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:43:03.000 --> 00:43:23.000 And then I can actually pull over and resize the other items. And this is really helpful if maybe you need to copy some information from, from one record into another so you can have both of these open to compare them. Maybe you're needing to compare to see which one is a best match. 158 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:43:23.000 --> 00:43:42.210 So that's really helpful to know how to do that. So again, that is under window. Once you have pinned it, so to pin the records, you're gonna use view and choose pinned. And then to view them together, you're gonna choose window. You also see here the option to close all of your windows, so I'm gonna go ahead and do that. 159 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:43:47.730 --> 00:44:04.170 Alright, and had I not closed them all I would have used that view pinned to unpin that record and move on. Okay. Any questions about that section or anything else? I don't see anything, but. 160 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:44:04.170 --> 00:44:23.280 Feel free to ping me if you have anything. I'm gonna pause for a moment just in case. Okay, not seeing anything, but I'll keep an eye out. 161 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:44:23.280 --> 00:44:42.840 Okay, so as you're reviewing a record, you may find that you need more information. Oh, sorry, I do see a question. When you edit a record, does it automatically switch to a working copy and how do you save it? Yes, it does automatically switch to a working copy as soon as you. 162 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:44:42.840 --> 00:45:01.620 Begin to edit, and I can quickly show you how to save and we will review saving more in future examples. So I'll show you how to save with my next example that I bring up. Let me just go ahead and actually do that now. I'm going to grab a record here. We're gonna use the OCLC number again. 163 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:45:05.460 --> 00:45:23.610 So yeah, before I show you the online help, I'll show that of saving. I'm just gonna do a quick demo on that because we do discuss that further in future sessions. So once I have the record open, two things, if I make an edit and I don't save it, I'll get and I go to close it. Let me show you that actually let's say that. 164 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:45:23.610 --> 00:45:40.890 I'm just gonna copy out that 050 again and I'm gonna put it into the 090. Now, because I've made an edit, if I go to close this record, I am asked if I want to save the record. You have an option to save to local or online save file. 165 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:45:40.890 --> 00:45:58.200 We'll go more in depth with this in a future session. So for today I'm gonna suggest that you use online. Real quick, the difference online is for everyone at your library to see and it is if your library uses both Connexion and Record Manager. 166 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:45:58.200 --> 00:46:15.900 That online file is visible in both locations. Local is just a safe file on your workstation. Now local is going to be used for batch processing, which we will talk about in a future session as well. So that's one way. 167 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:46:15.900 --> 00:46:34.620 The other way is if I just go ahead when I open up the record, I can say under the action menu or I have these toolbar, the toolbar options as well, I can choose to save the record to an online file. Once I save that record, I'm gonna go ahead and do that. 168 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:46:34.620 --> 00:46:54.620 Connexion is going to save the record to the 1st available, say file number that's there and it'll notify you so you'll want to jot that down. This is another reason why using that status that I showed earlier is helpful. And I know I'm saying this a lot, but we are in the 1st of six sessions. We will see this. 169 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:46:54.620 --> 00:47:05.340 More as we go through this series, I promise. And we'll go more in depth with it. But I hope that gives you a quick answer to your question. 170 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:47:05.340 --> 00:47:21.330 Let me know if it didn't help, if you still have questions about that. Okay, so I want to bring up this record, and this is What I wanna show here is. 171 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:47:21.330 --> 00:47:36.750 That as you're reviewing the record, you might need some information on specific MARC fields. You may need to, e.g., check to make sure that you're using the correct tags and sub fields. So you can use the MARC help feature, the MARC field help feature. 172 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:47:36.750 --> 00:47:54.810 Which is going to provide you links to the OCLC bibliographic formats and standards that will help you to find additional information for those MARC tags and subfields. Again, as I've mentioned, one of the things I like about Connexion is that it gives you multiple ways of accessing things. 173 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:47:54.810 --> 00:48:11.490 So you do have a couple options for accessing MARC field help as well, but I'm going to go ahead and just show what I think to be the easiest one is while you're on a field, this is when you're in variable fields, you can click within the tag and then do a right click. 174 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:48:11.490 --> 00:48:30.390 And you will see MARC Field help there. So if I click on MARC Field Help, what that is going to do is open up that specific tag information within the OCLC biographic formats and standards. The link for the OCLC bibliographic formats and standards is in the learner guide. 175 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:48:30.390 --> 00:48:47.430 But I'm also going to go ahead and add a short URL link here for you guys to be able to access that as well. But the nice thing about the MARC field help is it's gonna take you directly to the information for that field. Now, if I go back to my Connexion. 176 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:48:47.430 --> 00:49:04.890 So what I showed is how to get that MARC field help for variable fields. For fixed fields, it's a little easier. Before I show that, I do want to point out something that I meant to show you earlier. I currently have my fixed fields listed at the top as individual fixed fields. 177 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:49:04.890 --> 00:49:22.890 But if you go to the view menu, you can choose to show those at the bottom of your screen or to have them display as a variable field. So that's under view and then OCLC fixed field. I'll show you quickly switching it to display as variable field. 178 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:49:22.890 --> 00:49:38.250 And what that does is that puts it in the leade, 001, 005 and 008 here. I personally like having it either on the top or the bottom, and one of the reasons is because of the next thing I'm gonna show you. 179 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:49:38.250 --> 00:49:58.250 When you have the fixed fields laid out like this, you'll see that each of these are links. So if I click on one of those links, let's say that I want to know more about this DTST field. If I click on that, again, it's gonna automatically open up the bibliographic formats and standards. And if I scroll down on. 180 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:49:58.250 --> 00:50:05.040 On that I can see the last time that this was updated and any information on on. 181 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:50:05.040 --> 00:50:25.040 Like additional information. Okay, let me get back over to my Connexion real quick. Okay, so some other areas for help within Connexion. If you go to the help menu, you'll see that MARC field help again right there. That's just gonna open up. 182 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:50:25.040 --> 00:50:43.920 Bib formats and standards generally. You can click on the client help link to be taken to our documentation on Connexion client. This tutorial is unfortunately NO longer available, so ignore that. The contact support is going to actually click, if you click on that, it brings up a form. 183 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:50:43.920 --> 00:51:02.280 For you to be able to reach out to support directly. This is really helpful if you're like on a record cause it sometimes will input some information for you as you see here. Also under help, there's the useful web links. Again, the 1st couple are gonna take you to some documentation. 184 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:51:02.280 --> 00:51:22.280 Here's where you can get to the bibliographic formats and standards itself, information on MARC records. Unfortunately the classified system is recently just decommissioned, so that won't help you much. And there's a few other things. Two things to point out here, the record change request, that's a really good tool to use here because again that. 185 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:51:22.280 --> 00:51:40.020 It's going to give you the form that you need to be able to send any type of record issues to our quality, to our big change team. So if you're on a record and you're unable to make a change to that Worldcat record and you see that there's an error. 186 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:51:40.020 --> 00:51:55.830 Or maybe something's updated and you want to have that updated, use that record change request form under help. It's under help, useful web links. The and then the last one I wanted to show here is the access and authorization form. 187 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:51:55.830 --> 00:52:15.830 We do recommend that everyone at your library have their own authorization number, so they are free for cataloging subscribers, you can have as many as you need. So this is the form that's you're gonna fill out to request additional authorization numbers. And as I mentioned at the beginning of our session, if you have questions about that, you can reach out to our orders team or our support. 188 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:52:15.830 --> 00:52:35.730 Okay, so I wanna jump back over to my PowerPoint real quick cause I have a few questions for you guys. See we have about 5 min, so we'll hopefully get to these. Let me pull up my. 189 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:52:35.730 --> 00:52:54.240 Slido for you here if it'll come up. Okay, so I'm not able to get to that, so I'm just going to have you guys answer these in the chat. So where can you enter a default authorization and set up, and set up start options for Connexion client? 190 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:52:54.240 --> 00:53:14.240 Is that under the tools options menu? Is it tools and then profiles, actions, and then holdings or cataloging and search? So you can just go ahead and add your answer. Oh, here I think I can actually get up that Slido now. I couldn't find it. 191 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:53:14.240 --> 00:53:33.030 Minute a minute ago. There it is. So I'm gonna trigger that for you so you can answer that anonymously. I think sometimes people prefer that. Alright, give me just a moment to pull that up. Okay, so you should be seeing that poll now. It's got the same question. 192 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:53:33.030 --> 00:53:52.800 If you don't, and if you don't mind using the chat, that's ok. So is that A, B, C or D? And I'll pause for a moment to give you a chance to do that. I'll give you a little hint. Most of our settings are in the same place. 193 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:54:00.900 --> 00:54:16.590 Okay, looks like just about everybody had a chance to answer that. So the answer is A So that is going to be under your tools and then options. Now remember, the authorizations are going to be set up under the authorization tab. 194 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:54:16.590 --> 00:54:36.590 And the setup start options are under the general tab. Alright, next question. So which of these photos demonstrates the correct menu order for the copy cataloging workflow? Are you going to go to the view menu to find a matching record? 195 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:54:36.590 --> 00:54:52.980 And then the edit menu to edit records and the edit menu to set holdings and export the record or are you going to go to cataloging menu to find the matching record? Edit menu to edit the record? 196 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:54:52.980 --> 00:55:12.980 And action menu to set your holdings and export the record. And I'll give you all a moment for that one ok and it looks like just about everybody had answered a chance to answer that one. So yes, the answer is. 197 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:55:12.980 --> 00:55:17.940 So you'll 1st start at the catalogging menu or you can use those. 198 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:55:17.940 --> 00:55:33.000 Keystrokes or toolbar options for all of these, but you're gonna typically go to that cataloging menu to find your matching record, then you'll use the edit menu to make any edits and these. 199 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:55:33.000 --> 00:55:53.000 Action menu for setting holdings and exporting records. Alright, I have one more question for you guys. This one can sometimes be tricky, so I'm gonna try to explain this one well. So if you edit, but do not replace, and that part's the key part, a record in Connexion. The changes that you make. 200 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:55:53.000 --> 00:55:58.260 Are automatically reflected on the Worldcat record for others to see. True or false? 201 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:55:58.260 --> 00:56:14.370 Alright, and I know I'm moving through quickly, but I think that just about everybody who answered that one. Yes, that is false. The key part there is. 202 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:56:14.370 --> 00:56:29.850 Do not replace. So if you're just going in and making those local edits and you're just adding your holdings and or exporting, it will not change the world cat record. And that's actually what we want. 203 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:56:29.850 --> 00:56:46.380 All right. We do still have a couple minutes, so I'm just gonna pause to see if there's any questions. In the meantime I'm gonna switch my slide here for you. If you have any questions after this session. 204 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:56:46.380 --> 00:57:05.910 You can find information at our help site at help.oclc.org. You can also reach our support team at oc.lc/support and I'm gonna enter that into the chat for you. 205 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:57:05.910 --> 00:57:25.910 And then at the end of this session, once we sign out, you will be taken to an evaluation for this course. We really do appreciate your feedback. Any and all feedback is helpful, helps us to improve our sessions as we go on. For the additional sessions, so today was session one out of six available. 206 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:57:27.390 --> 00:57:46.290 We will be doing these every two weeks over the next couple months, so to register for the additional sessions, if you have not yet done that, you can go to our support site at help.oclc.org or actually use that oc.lc/training to get to our training. 207 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:57:46.290 --> 00:58:05.100 Upcoming training section there or if you are in our community center, you can register directly there within the community center. If you registered for this class through the community center, you will receive a badge for attending this session. 208 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:58:05.100 --> 00:58:25.100 Those can sometimes take a month or so to get to you. If you did not register through the community center and you would like a badge, you can do so by completing the form at the link shown here and I just added that to the chat. And then lastly, if you have any questions about this training after today's session, specifically on. 209 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:58:25.100 --> 00:58:43.980 In the training itself, you can reach us at training@oclc.org. Alright, so that was what I had for you guys today. I am gonna go ahead and pause. I know we're just a minute or so over, but I'm ok to hang out and see if there's any questions that came up. 210 "Crystal Rodriguez" (2381964800) 00:58:43.980 --> 00:59:01.950 I don't see any right now, but I'll pause in case anybody has any. And if not, we can always address those. If anything comes up after the fact, we can address those in future sessions. Alright, looks like we're good. I'm gonna go ahead and stop the recording.
